Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

I drove to the expensive country club where Sarah spent her afternoons pretending to be rich.
I walked right past the valet and marched directly onto the outdoor dining patio.
Sarah was sitting with her wealthy friends, sipping a brightly colored cocktail.
When she saw my sling and my cheap thrift-store clothes, her face turned pale with sheer embarrassment.
I did not scream or cause a dramatic scene.
I calmly walked up to her table and dropped a thick folder directly onto her plate.
Her friends gasped as the folder popped open, revealing the foreclosure notices on her house.
I leaned in close so only she could hear my trembling voice.
I told her that if she did not drop the legal injunction by tomorrow, I would mail copies to everyone in town.
Sarah’s eyes filled with panicked tears as she realized her perfect social image was entirely shattered.
She whispered that I was a monster for doing this to my own flesh and blood.
I looked at her with absolutely zero pity in my soul.

I reminded her that she had watched her brother break my bones and did absolutely nothing.
I turned around and walked away, leaving her to face the judgmental stares of her elite friends.
