Chapter 5 - The Injunction

Two days later, a process server knocked on my door and handed me a thick manila envelope.
I sat at my kitchen table and read the legal documents with a sinking heart.
David and Sarah had actually filed an emergency injunction to block the sale of the cabin.
They claimed that my husband Robert had verbally promised the land to David before he died.
They also filed a motion requesting a psychological evaluation of my mental competency.
They were trying to legally label me as insane so they could steal my entire life.
I felt a cold sweat break out across my forehead as the reality of their cruelty set in.
If the sale was delayed by a lengthy court battle, I would miss the deadline for Lily’s surgery.
My granddaughter would die simply because my children wanted to buy new luxury cars.
I grabbed my coat and drove my beat-up sedan straight to the local bank.
I withdrew all of my meager savings that I had earned from baking pies and cleaning houses.
I needed to hire a private investigator to dig into David and Sarah’s current finances.

I knew they were desperate, and desperate people always leave a sloppy trail of mistakes.
I was going to beat them at their own ruthless game.
