Chapter 12 - The Hospital Visit

The next morning, I took a long bus ride to the private medical facility in the city.
I walked through the sterile white corridors until I reached the intensive care unit.
Lily was lying in the hospital bed, looking so small and fragile amidst the massive machines.
She had my late husband’s bright green eyes and a head full of beautiful, curly blonde hair.
Dr. Evans approached me with a warm, genuine smile on her tired face.
She confirmed that the funds from the trust had officially cleared the hospital’s accounting department.
Lily was officially placed at the very top of the urgent transplant list.
I sat down in the plastic chair beside the bed and gently took Lily’s frail hand in mine.
She looked at me and whispered a soft, weak thank you.
I kissed her forehead, tears of pure joy finally escaping my eyes.
I told her that she was going to live a long, beautiful life, far away from the darkness of her past.
