Chapter 18 - A New Home

The sale of my old house in Oakhaven went through much faster than I had anticipated.
I used the modest profits to buy a beautiful, small cottage just two miles away from the hospital.
The cottage had a beautiful wrap-around porch and a small garden perfect for planting roses.
I spent my afternoons painting the walls in bright, cheerful colors, erasing the gloom of my past.
Lily’s recovery was nothing short of a spectacular medical miracle.
Her new heart was incredibly strong, and the color had finally returned to her pale cheeks.
The state foster system, knowing my deep connection and financial stability, officially granted me full legal guardianship.
When Lily was finally discharged from the hospital, I brought her home to the sunny little cottage.
She walked into her newly decorated bedroom and threw her arms around my neck, hugging me tightly.
I felt a profound, incredible warmth spreading through my chest that I had not felt since Robert died.
