Chapter 15 - The Truth Revealed

A week later, I was sitting in the hospital cafeteria when a shadow fell across my table.

I looked up and saw Sarah standing there, looking incredibly haggard and defeated.

She had tracked me down through my lawyer, desperate for any kind of financial handout.

She sat down across from me and begged me to explain why I had sold the cabin.

She wanted to know where the two hundred and ten thousand dollars had actually gone.

I took a slow sip of my tea, staring into the eyes of the daughter who had broken my heart.

I asked her if she remembered the filthy motel on Highway 9 from sixteen years ago.

Sarah’s face instantly drained of all color, turning a sickly, ghostly white.

I told her that her father and I had found the premature baby she threw away like garbage.

I told her that the money she tried to steal was the exact price of her abandoned daughter’s new heart.

Sarah completely stopped breathing, her hands shaking violently against the table.

The crushing weight of her own monstrous actions finally hit her with full force.
