Chapter 3 - The Ultimatum

Ten minutes later, the intercom buzzed again.

This time, the voice on the other end made my blood freeze.

“Clara, open this door right now.”

It was Harrison Vance.

His voice was dangerously calm, which was always worse than when he yelled.

“Mr. Vance, please listen to me,” I begged into the microphone.

“Vivienne is lying.”

“I walked in and found my fiancée bleeding on the bathroom floor,” Harrison said, his tone like ice.

“She said you lost your mind.”

“She was burning Maya’s hair with a styling iron!” I cried out.

“I had to stop her!”

There was a long pause on the other end of the line.

I could hear Vivienne sobbing theatrically in the background.

“Oh, Harrison, it was awful,” Vivienne wailed through the speaker.

“She just snapped and pushed me.”

“Clara, you have ten seconds to open this door, or I am having my men cut through the steel,” Harrison warned.

I looked at Maya.

She was shaking her head frantically, pointing at the door with a terrified expression.

I pressed the unlock button.
