Chapter 15 - A Life-Changing Gift

Harrison stood up and walked over to his grand oak desk.
He pulled out a checkbook and a sleek black fountain pen.
He quickly scribbled something down, tore the check off, and handed it to me.
I looked down at the piece of paper, and my breath completely left my lungs.
It was a check for five hundred thousand dollars.
“Mr. Vance, I can’t accept this,” I gasped, my hands shaking.
“This is way too much money.”
“That is for your sister’s medical bills,” Harrison said firmly.
“I will also be transferring her to the VIP oncology wing at Cedars-Sinai by tomorrow morning.”
“I’m paying for the best specialists in the country to treat her.”
Tears blurred my vision, and I started sobbing into my hands.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked through my tears.
“Because you are family now, Clara,” Harrison replied, sitting beside me and putting a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“You protected Maya when I failed to.”
“You are not just staff anymore.”
“I want you to become the head of household management.”
