Chapter 13 - Clearing the Air

The police arrived twenty minutes later with flashing lights and screaming sirens.

Vivienne was dragged out the front doors of the mansion in handcuffs, kicking and spitting at the officers.

The paparazzi, who had gathered for the charity gala, caught the whole thing on camera.

Tomorrow morning, her humiliated face would be plastered on every tabloid in the country.

Inside, paramedics gently treated the burn on Maya’s neck.

They applied a soothing ointment and a small bandage, assuring us there would be no permanent scarring.

Maya held my hand tightly the entire time they treated her.

Harrison paced the floor, answering questions from the lead detective.

He handed over the security footage on a thumb drive.

“We have enough here to put her away for a few years, Mr. Vance,” the detective confirmed.

“Aggravated assault on a minor is a serious felony.”

Harrison thanked the officers and showed them out.

The massive mansion was finally quiet again, but this time, it was a peaceful quiet.
