Chapter 11 - The Aftermath

With Vivienne dragged away screaming, the panic room suddenly felt massive and empty.
Harrison stood by the door for a long time, staring at the floor.
He looked like a man who had just woken up from a terrible nightmare.
Slowly, he turned around and walked over to where I was holding Maya on the sofa.
He dropped to his knees, not caring that he was ruining his expensive suit trousers.
Tears welled up in the billionaire’s eyes and spilled over his cheeks.
“Maya,” he choked out, reaching his trembling hands out to her.
“My beautiful girl.”
“I am so, so sorry.”
Maya looked at him for a second, then let go of my neck.
She threw her small arms around her father’s broad shoulders and buried her face in his chest.
Harrison broke down, sobbing openly as he held his daughter tight.
I sat back, giving them the space they needed to heal.
It was the first time I had ever seen Harrison Vance cry.
