Chapter 4 - Into the NightSmoke filled the hallways, stinging my eyes and making my throat burn.

Silas appeared from the shadows, his suit jacket torn and stained with blood.

“The perimeter is breached, boss,” Silas shouted over the noise.

“Get the underground garage open,” Julian yelled back, pushing me behind his broad shoulders.

We moved as a tactical unit, Julian firing with lethal precision at shadows I couldn't even see.

I kept my hands clamped onto the back of his vest, terrified to let go.

Men were shouting in a language I didn't understand.

We reached the heavy steel doors of the lower levels.

Julian punched in a code, and the doors hissed open.

Inside sat a fleet of armored SUVs, completely blacked out.

“Get in the back,” he ordered, shoving me toward a heavily modified Mercedes G-Wagon.

I scrambled inside just as a bullet shattered the concrete pillar next to Julian’s head.

He didn't even flinch.

He returned fire, dropped the empty magazine, and slammed a fresh one in.

He jumped into the driver's seat and hit the ignition.

The engine roared to life with the fury of a caged beast.

Julian slammed his foot on the gas, and we burst through the hidden exit tunnel into the freezing night.
