Chapter 18 - I Don't Need a SaviorI didn't back down.

I leaned over the hospital bed, planting my hands on either side of his shoulders.
“I survived a mafia hit, an explosion, and a kidnapping in the span of three days,” I told him fiercely.
“I don't need a savior, Julian. I need the man who kissed me in front of the fire.”
He closed his eyes, a muscle feathering in his jaw as he fought an internal battle.
“I destroy everything I touch, Maya.”
“Then destroy me,” I challenged, my voice dropping to a whisper.
I leaned down and pressed my lips to his, defying every boundary he tried to build.
He resisted for exactly one second.
Then his good arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me tightly against his uninjured side.
He kissed me back with all the desperation he had been trying to hide.
It was messy, painful, and absolutely perfect.
When we finally broke apart, we were both breathless.
“You are the most stubborn woman I have ever met,” he murmured against my lips.
