Chapter 17 - The Severance PackageI stared at his empty hand, my heart breaking at the gesture.

“What are you doing, Julian?” I asked, my voice trembling.
He refused to look at me, staring blankly at the ceiling.
“Victor is dead, but the syndicate is not,” he said coldly.
“I am handing the SD card over to the feds anonymously. It will dismantle the Rossi family permanently.”
“That's good,” I said cautiously. “It means it is over.”
“It means you are free to go,” he corrected, his voice hardening into ice.
He was putting his armor back on, shutting me out completely.
“I have set up a trust fund in your name. Five million dollars. You will never have to work again.”
“I don't want your money,” I said, standing up from the chair.
“It is not a request, Maya. It is a severance package.”
“You are pushing me away because you are afraid!” I yelled, finally losing my temper.
He turned his head sharply, his eyes flashing with sudden, raw anger.
