Chapter 12 - Face to Face with RossiThey threw me into the back of a rusted van and blindfolded me.

My shoulder throbbed where I had hit the steel wall, but the physical pain was nothing compared to my terror.
They drove for hours, the van bumping violently over uneven roads.
When the van finally stopped, I was dragged out into the freezing wind.
They pulled the blindfold off my face.
I was standing in the center of an abandoned warehouse, surrounded by heavily armed men.
A man in a sharp white suit walked slowly toward me, clapping his hands in mock applause.
“Maya Rossi,” he smiled, revealing gold-capped teeth. “You look just like your miserable father.”
“Victor Rossi,” I spat out, recognizing him from old news clippings.
“Where is the SD card?” he demanded, dropping the polite act immediately.
“I don't have it,” I lied smoothly, staring him right in the eye.
He backhanded me across the face so hard I tasted copper.
I fell to the concrete floor, my ears ringing violently.
“Vance is dead, and nobody is coming to save you,” Victor snarled.
He grabbed my throat, cutting off my air supply.

Before I could answer, all the lights in the massive warehouse suddenly shut off.
