Chapter 14 - The Final Stand“You just don't know how to die, do you, Vance?” Victor sneered, his finger twitching on the trigger.

Julian stepped directly in front of me, shielding my body entirely with his own.

“You made a mistake touching what belongs to me,” Julian said, his voice terrifyingly calm.

“She is a dead woman walking, and you are going down with her,” Victor laughed.

Victor raised the weapon to fire.

Julian didn't even blink.

He drew his sidearm with impossible speed and fired twice.

The bullets hit Victor square in the forehead before he could pull his own trigger.

The syndicate boss crumpled to the ground, dead before he hit the concrete.

“Let's go,” Julian said, stepping over the body without a second glance.

We burst through the side doors of the warehouse into the freezing night.

A heavily armored helicopter was hovering just above the ground, the side doors open.

Silas was waving us toward the chopper.

We sprinted across the pavement, the rotor wash whipping my hair around my face.

Julian lifted me by my waist, throwing me inside the cabin before climbing in himself.

The helicopter banked hard, soaring into the dark sky, leaving the burning warehouse behind us.
