Chapter 3 - The Shattered Glass“Pack my things?”

I repeated, my brain refusing to process the command.

“Where am I supposed to go?”

Julian turned his back on me, adjusting the cuffs of his expensive shirt.

“You are not going anywhere alone,” he stated.

“You are coming with me.”

“Why would you protect a maid?” I challenged, my survival instincts finally kicking in.

He looked over his shoulder, his gaze sweeping over me with a possessive heat.

“Because what is inside my house belongs to me.”

Before I could argue, the deafening sound of an explosion rocked the estate.

The glass ceiling of the conservatory shattered into a million deadly pieces.

Julian tackled me to the ground before I could even scream.

Heavy shards of glass rained down around us, embedding into the dirt and exotic plants.

Alarms began to shriek throughout the massive house.

“They are early,” Julian growled, pulling a sleek black handgun from his shoulder holster.

He hauled me to my feet, his grip on my waist unyielding.

“Do not let go of me,” he commanded.

We ran out into the corridor just as automatic gunfire erupted from the main foyer.
