I stood in front of the mirror in the master bedroom, adjusting the delicate lace of my white dress.
Nora walked into the room, holding a bouquet of white orchids.
“You look beautiful, Maya,” she smiled, handing me the flowers.
“Thank you, Nora. For everything.”
She helped me fix my veil, her eyes shining with unshed tears.
“He is pacing holes into the marble floor downstairs,” she laughed.
I took a deep breath, smoothing the skirt of my dress one last time.
I walked out of the room, descending the grand staircase where guards used to ignore me.
Today, they all bowed their heads respectfully as I passed.
I reached the bottom of the stairs, stepping out onto the back terrace.
