Chapter 9 - The Intervention

I kicked the rusty side door of the warehouse open with all my strength.

The heavy metal slammed against the concrete wall with a deafening crash.

Mark spun around in absolute shock, dropping the steel pipe to the floor.

I stood in the doorway, my white wedding dress covered in mud, grease, and determination.

“You are right about one thing, Mark,” I said, stepping into the dim light of the warehouse.

“I was incredibly stupid to ever trust a snake like you.”

My father’s eyes widened in sheer panic.

“Sophie, run!” he screamed, pulling desperately against his heavy ropes.

“Get out of here, they will kill you!”

I ignored him, gripping the heavy iron wrench tightly in my right hand.

Mark’s shock quickly morphed into a sinister, predatory smile.

“Well, well, well, the runaway bride finally arrives,” Mark taunted, stepping toward me.

“You just saved me the trouble of hunting you down, sweetheart.”

He lunged at me, his massive hands reaching for my throat.

I did not flinch, and I did not step back.

I swung the heavy iron wrench with every ounce of fury I had suppressed for the last twenty years.

The metal connected solidly with his jaw, sending a sickening crack echoing through the room.

Mark crumbled to the concrete floor, groaning in absolute agony.
