Chapter 14 - The Hospital Room

The adrenaline completely left my body, and my father collapsed onto the floor.

The stress and the beatings had finally taken a massive toll on his frail heart.

Paramedics rushed into the warehouse, loading him onto a stretcher and rushing him to the hospital.

I rode in the back of the ambulance, holding his dirty, calloused hand the entire way.

I did not care that my wedding dress was soaked in mud and blood.

I only cared about the man fighting for his life on the stretcher.

The doctors rushed him into emergency surgery the second we arrived at the trauma center.

I sat in the sterile waiting room for ten agonizing hours.

The police detectives came by to take my official statement, praising my bravery and quick thinking.

They confirmed that the Sterling family would spend the rest of their lives in a federal prison.

The massive land deed was completely safe, and the syndicate was entirely destroyed.

Finally, a tired-looking surgeon walked out of the double doors.

“He is a fighter, Ms. Miller,” the doctor smiled warmly.

“The surgery was a complete success, and he is going to make a full recovery.”

I broke down into tears of pure, unadulterated joy.

I had lost a terrible fiancé, but I had finally gotten my father back.
