Chapter 8 - The Villain Unmasked

“You should have stayed in the shadows, old man,” Mark sneered, pacing around the tied-up captive.
“You ruined a very expensive, very important wedding today.”
My father coughed, spitting a mixture of blood and saliva onto the concrete.
“I couldn't let her marry a monster like you,” my father wheezed.
Mark laughed, a cold, empty sound that sent a shiver down my spine.
“She was going to sign over all of her maternal inheritance rights tomorrow morning.”
“We would have finally collected the debt you owe us, and she would have been none the wiser.”
I pressed my hands over my mouth to stop myself from screaming out loud.
My mother had owned a massive plot of undeveloped land in the countryside.
I always thought it was worthless, but clearly, the Syndicate knew it held massive value.
Mark had faked an entire relationship, proposed to me, and planned a wedding just to steal my family's land legally.
“You will never get away with this,” my father whispered defiantly.
“Sophie is smart, she will figure it out.”
Mark raised the steel pipe, his eyes flashing with violent malice.
“Sophie is a naive, stupid little girl who loves me,” Mark mocked.
I could not hide in the shadows any longer.

I grabbed a heavy iron wrench from a nearby workbench.
It was time to show Mark exactly how stupid I really was.
