Chapter 15 - The Healing Process

The next few weeks were a blur of legal depositions, media interviews, and hospital visits.
The story of the runaway bride taking down a billionaire crime syndicate made national headlines.
But I ignored the reporters and focused entirely on my father's recovery.
I moved him into my small apartment, transforming the guest room into a comfortable sanctuary.
We spent hours talking, crying, and completely rebuilding our broken relationship.
He told me stories about my mother, about how much she loved me, and how fiercely she fought her illness.
He explained how he had lived in the shadows, constantly watching me grow up from afar.
He had attended my high school graduation, standing in the back of the auditorium in a disguise.
He had watched me buy my first car, and he had even followed Mark to ensure he was a decent man.
That was how he discovered Mark’s true identity, forcing him to finally break his cover and crash the wedding.
“I am so sorry I ruined your special day, Sophie,” he said one evening, looking down at his hands.
I reached out and squeezed his fingers gently.
“You didn't ruin it, Dad,” I replied honestly.
