Chapter 7 - The Trap is Set

“The federal agents are finally here, Beatrice,” I whispered excitedly, quickly moving to the antique cedar trunk at the foot of the bed.

I grabbed the hidden leather briefcase and securely locked it, preparing to physically hand over the final pieces of undeniable physical evidence.

Beatrice sat up straight, her eyes blazing with a fierce, incredible strength that I had never seen in her before.

“Make sure you give them the falsified psychiatric evaluations with Eleanor’s actual forged signatures on them,” she instructed sharply.

“That specific document is the absolute key to proving premeditated fraud, and it will guarantee she never sees the outside of a prison again.”

I quickly tucked the heavy folder of documents directly into my oversized leather tote bag, securely zipping it shut.

Outside the bedroom, the loud, aggressive argument between Eleanor and Detective Harris was rapidly escalating into a terrifying shouting match.

“You have absolutely no legal right to freeze our bank accounts without a formal grand jury indictment!” Eleanor shrieked hysterically.

“The accounts are currently under federal investigation for severe elder abuse and financial exploitation, ma'am,” Harris replied with absolute, icy calm.

“We simply need to physically verify the health and mental competency of Beatrice before any massive funds can be legally released.”

Julian loudly slammed his fist against the wooden wall, completely losing his carefully constructed corporate composure in front of the police.

“My grandmother is heavily medicated for severe dementia, you cannot possibly speak to her in her current state!” he yelled desperately.

“If you actively prevent us from seeing her, we will immediately return with a SWAT team and a federal health inspector,” Harris warned smoothly.

I knew this was my absolute only chance to safely deliver the heavy folder of evidence without Julian violently intercepting it.

I took a deep breath, unlocked the bedroom door, and boldly stepped out into the chaotic, echoing hallway.

“Detective Harris, I am Clara, Julian’s wife, and I am the primary caretaker for Beatrice,” I announced loudly, drawing everyone's shocked attention.

Julian glared at me with absolute, unadulterated venom, violently gesturing for me to get back into the bedroom and shut my mouth.

“Clara, go back inside right now, this is absolutely none of your business!” my husband commanded, his voice shaking with terrifying rage.

I completely ignored him, confidently walking directly past my furious husband and handing my heavy leather bag straight to the detective.

“Inside this bag, you will find every single falsified document, the original toxicology report, and an encrypted flash drive,” I stated clearly.

Eleanor gasped loudly, her manicured hands aggressively flying to her mouth as she realized the catastrophic magnitude of my betrayal.

“You treacherous, ungrateful little bitch, what have you done to us?” she screamed, aggressively lunging forward to grab my hair.

Detective Harris instantly stepped between us, aggressively shoving Eleanor back and firmly placing a heavy hand on his holstered weapon.

“Back away right now, ma'am, or you will be immediately arrested for assaulting a federal witness,” Harris commanded in a booming, terrifying voice.
