Chapter 14 - The Final Manipulation

The federal police precinct was incredibly loud and chaotic, completely packed with aggressive detectives and ringing telephones.
I sat quietly in a small, windowless interrogation room, carefully reviewing my massive, detailed official statement with an assistant district attorney.
Suddenly, a uniformed officer knocked loudly on the metal door, announcing that Julian was desperately demanding to speak with me.
“You absolutely do not have to see him, Clara, we have more than enough evidence to put him away forever,” the prosecutor assured me.
“I want to see him, because I need to look him directly in the eyes one last time,” I replied with absolute, unwavering certainty.
The officers carefully escorted me down a long, incredibly sterile hallway toward the heavily secured holding cells in the basement.
Julian was sitting pathetically on a hard metal bench behind thick, reinforced safety glass, still wearing his completely ruined corporate suit.
His once perfect, arrogant hair was completely disheveled, and his face was pale with absolute, unadulterated terror.
When he finally saw me approaching the glass, he aggressively jumped up, violently slamming his hands against the thick, clear barrier.
“Clara, my beautiful wife, you have to completely fix this massive misunderstanding right now!” he begged desperately, his voice cracking.
“I am exactly the woman you thought I was, Julian, quiet, observant, and entirely capable of handling the family business,” I mocked smoothly.
“My mother completely forced me to do all of this, she aggressively manipulated me into stealing the money!” he lied shamelessly, crying fake tears.
It was absolutely pathetic to watch the once powerful, arrogant man violently throw his own mother under the bus to save himself.
“I listened to the hidden recordings, Julian, I know you were entirely complicit in the horrible torture of your own grandmother,” I stated coldly.
“You intentionally married me because you thought I was incredibly weak and easily controlled, but you made a massive, fatal miscalculation.”
His fake, desperate tears instantly vanished, entirely replaced by an ugly, violent sneer of pure, unadulterated hatred.
“You are nothing without my money, Clara, you will absolutely starve in the streets without my massive corporate salary!” he screamed angrily.
I let out a soft, genuine laugh that completely echoed through the quiet, depressing basement of the federal precinct.

“I am the sole federal witness in a massive financial fraud case, Julian, I will be absolutely fine for the rest of my life,” I smiled.
I slowly turned my back on his violently screaming, pathetic form, confidently walking away without a single ounce of regret.
