Chapter 9 - Building the Case

Julian relocated me to a highly secure, private medical facility hidden in the secluded mountains.
It was a fortress, guarded around the clock by former military personnel.
For the first few weeks, I did nothing but sleep, heal, and mourn the baby I had lost.
The physical pain slowly faded, but the emotional scars burned fiercely every single day.
The doctors assured me that the remaining twins—a boy and a girl—were growing strong and healthy.
Every ultrasound filled me with both immense joy and a burning desire for absolute justice.
Julian visited me every afternoon, bringing boxes of financial records and legal documents.
We spent hours building an airtight case against the entire Sterling family empire.
“We have the audio recording of Sylvia confessing to the assault,” Julian explained one evening.
“But Marcus’s lawyers are incredibly connected, and they will try to get it thrown out of court.”
“They will claim she was emotionally distressed or that you manipulated the audio file.”
I stared out the massive window at the setting sun, my jaw completely set with determination.
“Then we do not just fight them in a courtroom, Julian.”
“We destroy their entire reputation in the court of public opinion first.”
Julian smiled, a predatory gleam flashing in his sharp, intelligent eyes.
“I was hoping you would say that, Elena.”
“I have a contact at a major investigative news network who loves a good corporate scandal.”
