Chapter 11 - The Arrest

The morning sun barely peeked over the horizon when a fleet of police cruisers surrounded the townhouse.

News vans were already parked on the street, their massive camera lenses pointed at the front door.

I watched the live broadcast on my tablet, completely unable to look away from the screen.

Heavily armed swat officers used a battering ram to smash through the front doors of Sylvia’s pristine home.

Ten minutes later, Sylvia was dragged out onto the front porch in her silk pajamas.

Her hair was a messy rat's nest, and she was screaming hysterically at the news cameras.

“Do not film me, I am innocent, you peasants!” she shrieked as an officer forced her head down into the cruiser.

Then, the cameras panned to the side of the house as a loud commotion broke out.

Marcus was desperately trying to hop the back fence, wearing a hastily packed backpack.

He was trying to abandon his mother and flee the country like a total coward.

Three officers tackled him into the muddy rose bushes, aggressively securing his hands behind his back in zip ties.

He looked pathetic, weak, and absolutely terrified as they marched him to a separate police car.

I felt a massive weight permanently lift off my heavy shoulders.

The men who had terrorized me were finally locked away in tiny steel cages.

Julian walked into my room, holding his phone up in triumph.

“Bail was completely denied for both of them due to the flight risk,” he announced.

“They will sit in county jail until the trial begins.”

I smiled, finally allowing myself to truly breathe for the first time in months.
