Chapter 13 - The Star Witness
The courtroom doors opened, and Sarah, the brave emergency room nurse, walked down the aisle.
She took the stand, her uniform perfectly pressed and her posture completely unyielding.
Sarah testified about the massive bribe Marcus and Sylvia had offered the medical staff.
She presented her own handwritten logs of their attempts to alter my official medical records.
“They explicitly asked how much money it would take to ensure the patient did not wake up,” Sarah stated clearly.
The entire courtroom erupted into frantic gasps and shocked whispers.
The judge aggressively banged his wooden gavel, demanding immediate order in his court.
Marcus’s face drained of all color, and he suddenly jumped up from his wooden chair.
“I want a plea deal!” Marcus screamed, pointing a shaking finger directly at his own mother.
“It was entirely her idea, she planned the whole thing to get the trust fund!”
Sylvia lunged at her son, violently clawing at his face like a rabid animal.
Bailiffs rushed the defense table, brutally tackling both of them to the ground to separate them.
It was the most pathetic, satisfying display of cowardice I had ever witnessed.
Marcus had completely turned on his own mother to save his own skin, just as I knew he would.
The judge ordered a brief recess, shaking his head in absolute disgust at the chaotic scene.
