Chapter 1 - The Devastating Diagnosis

The ultrasound technician did not say a single word as he stared at the glowing monitor.

My heart pounded against my ribs like a trapped bird desperately trying to escape.

The silence in the emergency room was so heavy it felt like it was suffocating me.

“Please tell me what is wrong,” I begged, my voice cracking into a pathetic whisper.

The senior specialist finally turned to me, his expression grave and etched with deep sorrow.

“You are pregnant with triplets, ma'am,” he started, his voice soft but clinical.

I gasped, a fleeting moment of pure joy washing over me before reality crashed back down.

“However, the blunt force trauma to your abdomen has caused catastrophic damage,” he continued.

He pointed to a dark, jagged shadow on the screen that was surrounding the tiny shapes.

“One of the amniotic sacs has ruptured completely, and we have lost one of the babies.”

A guttural sob ripped from my throat, the kind of sound I never knew I could make.

The pain in my stomach was nothing compared to the agony tearing through my soul.

“The other two are currently stable, but you are experiencing severe internal bleeding,” the doctor warned.

“If we do not operate immediately, we will lose all of them, and we will lose you.”

Before I could even process the horror of his words, the emergency room doors slammed open.

Marcus rushed in, his designer clothes still stained with my blood, looking frantic.

I reached out my hand to my husband, desperate for him to comfort me in this living nightmare.

But as he looked at the doctor, the first words out of his mouth chilled me to the bone.
