Chapter 4 - The Secret Alliance

The nurse, whose name tag read 'Sarah,' looked nervously toward the closed hospital door.
“I could lose my medical license for getting involved in a domestic dispute,” she whispered.
“This is not a dispute, it is attempted murder,” I pleaded, tears streaming down my pale cheeks.
“If they take me away, they will kill my babies and they will kill me.”
Sarah bit her lip, staring at my bruised and battered form before letting out a heavy sigh.
“My own sister was trapped in a violently abusive marriage, and nobody believed her until it was too late.”
She pulled a small, untraceable burner phone from the deep pocket of her blue scrubs.
“I bought this from a convenience store during my break, it is completely off the grid.”
She slipped the cheap plastic device under my pillow, hiding it from plain sight.
“You need to contact a lawyer, someone entirely outside of your husband’s circle of influence.”
I nodded frantically, my mind racing through the very short list of people I could actually trust.
Before I could thank her, the heavy wooden door to my private room swung open.
Marcus strolled in holding a massive bouquet of expensive white lilies, looking like the perfect, concerned husband.
Behind him stood Sylvia, wearing a tailored Chanel suit and a smug, sickening smirk on her face.
Sarah immediately stepped back, transforming her face into a mask of professional indifference.
“The patient is awake, but she is heavily medicated and needs her rest,” Sarah stated coldly before exiting.
Sylvia walked over to the edge of my bed, her eyes devoid of any human empathy.

“Look at the mess you have made, darling,” she purred maliciously.
I closed my eyes, forcing myself to play the part of a broken, submissive victim.
