Chapter 6 - The True Inheritance

After school, Jonathan drove Clara to a towering glass skyscraper in downtown.

They took a private elevator to the top floor, stepping into a massive corner office.

Arthur Sterling was sitting behind a mahogany desk, looking tired but victorious.

“Did Beatrice try to get you fired?” Arthur asked, not even looking up from his files.

“She did, but Mr. Vance handled it perfectly,” Clara replied, taking a seat.

Arthur nodded and pushed a sleek, black folder across the desk.

“It is time you understand exactly what you are inheriting, Clara.”

She opened the folder and gasped at the numbers printed on the summary page.

It wasn’t just a house; it was a multinational corporation, real estate, and massive trusts.

“I am worth over two billion dollars,” Arthur stated matter-of-factly.

“And I am placing ninety percent of it into an irrevocable trust in your name.”

Clara felt the room spin.

“Arthur, this is too much, I don’t know how to run a business empire.”

“You don’t have to run it, you just have to control who does,” he explained.

“My children have been stealing from the company for a decade.”

“I need you to take this power and finally cut them off.”

Clara thought of Toby sitting by the trash can, humiliated and crying.

She closed the folder and looked Arthur dead in the eye.

“Tell me what I need to sign.”
