Chapter 14 - The Hospital Standoff
Clara stood up, placing herself firmly between Arthur’s bed and his aggressive children.
“You heard him,” Clara said, her voice like steel.
“Leave this room immediately.”
Beatrice glared at her, stepping forward aggressively.
“You cannot keep a daughter away from her dying father!”
“I am his medical power of attorney,” Clara stated, pulling a document from her purse.
“I have the legal authority to ban you from this floor, and I am exercising it now.”
Richard scoffed, crossing his arms.
“This is insane, we are family!”
“You lost the right to call yourselves family when you abandoned him,” Clara fired back.
The hospital security guards arrived quickly, responding to Clara’s silent signal to the nurses.
“Ma'am, sir, you need to leave the premises,” the head guard ordered.
Beatrice thrashed against the guard’s grip as they pulled her toward the hallway.
“You will burn in hell for this, Clara!” Beatrice shrieked.
Clara locked the door behind them, shutting out the noise and the chaos.
She sat back down beside Arthur, stroking his silver hair.

He let out a long, peaceful sigh.
Ten minutes later, the machines flatlined, and Arthur Sterling was gone.
