Chapter 4 - The Principal's Office
Clara arrived at Lincoln Elementary School at seven in the morning, exhausted but determined.
She had barely slept, her mind racing with Arthur’s shocking announcement.
Before she could even unlock her classroom door, the principal called her over the intercom.
Mr. Davis sat behind his desk, looking extremely uncomfortable.
“Clara, we have received a flood of serious complaints this morning,” he said nervously.
“Parents are claiming you have been soliciting money from students and acting erratically.”
Clara’s jaw dropped in sheer disbelief.
“That is a complete lie, Mr. Davis, and you know it!”
“I have worked here for five years with a spotless record.”
Mr. Davis sighed and rubbed his temples.
“I know, Clara, but these complaints come from very influential donors.”
“I have to place you on unpaid administrative leave pending an investigation.”
Tears of frustration pricked Clara’s eyes.
She knew exactly who was behind this cowardly attack.
Just as she was about to argue, the office door swung open with a loud bang.
A tall man in a sharp tailored suit walked in, carrying a leather briefcase.

“My name is Jonathan Vance, and I am the lead attorney for the Sterling Estate,” the man announced.
“And if you suspend my client, we will sue this school district into oblivion.”
