Chapter 11 - The Schoolyard Bully

Despite their newfound wealth, Clara insisted that Toby stay at his regular elementary school.
She wanted him to have a normal childhood, surrounded by his real friends.
But the Sterling family’s toxicity soon found its way to the playground.
During recess, Julian and Preston approached Toby by the swing set.
Preston shoved Toby hard, knocking him into the dirt.
“My mom says your mom is a thief who stole our money!” Preston yelled.
Toby scraped his knee, tears welling up in his eyes.
But instead of crying, Toby remembered what his mother had told him.
He stood up, brushed the dirt off his jeans, and looked Preston in the eye.
“My mom didn’t steal anything,” Toby said bravely.
“Your grandfather gave it to us because your family is mean.”
Preston raised his fist to punch Toby, but a shadow fell over them.
It was the school security guard, flanked by two men in dark suits.
“Is there a problem here, boys?” the guard asked sternly.
The men in suits were Arthur’s private security detail, assigned to watch Toby from a distance.
Preston backed away, suddenly looking very small and afraid.

“No sir,” Preston muttered, grabbing Julian’s arm and running away.
Toby smiled, realizing he would never be pushed around by them again.
