Chapter 10 - The Vault

That evening, Arthur asked Clara to push his wheelchair into the basement of his corporate building.

They arrived at a heavy steel door that required a retinal scan and a passcode.

Arthur punched in the numbers, and the vault hissed open.

Inside, there were no piles of gold or stacks of cash.

There were rows of filing cabinets filled with decades of secrets.

“Money is just paper, Clara,” Arthur said quietly.

“Information is real power.”

He pointed to a red cabinet in the corner.

“That cabinet holds the absolute proof of Richard’s offshore tax evasion.”

“If they ever try to harm you or Toby, you give that to the FBI.”

Clara stared at the files, realizing the immense weight of what she had been given.

Arthur coughed violently, his fragile frame shaking in the wheelchair.

“My time is running out, Clara,” he whispered, wiping his mouth with a handkerchief.

“I need you to promise me you will not show them mercy.”

“They are like wolves, and if you show weakness, they will tear you apart.”

Clara knelt beside him and took his frail hand.

“I promise you, Arthur.”

“I will protect this legacy, and I will protect my son.”
