Chapter 3 - The Gathering Storm

That night, the Sterling mansion felt like a war room.
Beatrice had summoned every aunt, uncle, and cousin to the grand dining room.
The chocolate fountain outside had melted into a sticky mess, completely forgotten.
“We cannot let a public school teacher take everything,” Preston’s father, Richard, declared.
“Arthur is clearly suffering from dementia.”
“He knew exactly what he was saying,” Beatrice muttered, pacing the floor.
“He already had the paperwork drawn up, which means he’s been planning this.”
She slammed her fist on the mahogany table.
“We have to destroy her reputation before the will is legally cemented.”
“If we prove she’s unfit or a fraud, the court will side with us.”
Richard smirked, pulling out his phone.
“I know the principal at the school where she teaches.”
“A few anonymous complaints from concerned wealthy parents should get her suspended.”
Beatrice’s eyes gleamed with a vicious, calculating light.
“Do it tonight, Richard.”
“Make sure she wakes up tomorrow with no job and no dignity.”
They clinked their expensive scotch glasses together, confident in their wicked plan.

They had no idea that Arthur had anticipated their every move.
The storm was coming, but Clara was no longer standing in it alone.
