Chapter 7 - Following the Money
Sarah typed furiously into the police database, bypassing the security flags.
"Sterling owns twelve properties, all bought with cash in the last three years," she reported.
"He's running a massive laundering operation through a fake construction company."
"Briggs is using him to clean the drug money from the west side cartels," Marcus deduced.
"Where is Sterling right now?" Marcus asked, checking his weapon's magazine.
"GPS shows his phone is stationary at his luxury high-rise downtown," Sarah answered.
"He thinks he's safe surrounded by expensive security guards," Marcus sneered.
"I'm going to pay him a visit and get a full confession on tape."
"Be careful, Marcus, Briggs has patrol cars circling that entire block," Sarah warned.
"I'm done being careful," Marcus said before snapping the burner phone in half.
He looked back at Leo, who was finally sleeping peacefully near the heater.
