Chapter 17 - Drawing Fire

"You're a coward, Briggs, hiding behind a badge to play a gangster!" Marcus yelled.
He threw his flashlight down the tunnel in the opposite direction.
Briggs took the bait, firing three rapid shots at the rolling beam of light.
Marcus used the muzzle flashes to pinpoint the corrupt captain's exact location.
He stepped out from cover, firing two precise shots into the darkness.
He heard a sickening thud followed by a sharp scream of agony.
Marcus slowly advanced, keeping his weapon raised and ready to fire again.
Briggs was slumped against the damp wall, clutching a shattered kneecap.
The duffel bag of cartel cash had burst open, spilling bloody bills into the puddles.
Briggs raised his gun with a trembling hand, trying to get one last shot off.

Marcus kicked the weapon away, pressing the barrel of his Glock to Briggs's forehead.
"This is for Leo," Marcus whispered, staring into the terrified eyes of his former boss.
