Chapter 6 - A Call for Help

The safe house was dark, smelling of motor oil and stale dust.
Marcus flipped a hidden switch, bringing weak fluorescent lights to life.
The back office had a cot, a space heater, and a fully stocked medical kit.
He immediately turned on the heater and wrapped Leo in a wool blanket.
"You stay in this room, no matter what you hear," Marcus instructed firmly.
He pulled out a burner phone he kept hidden inside a hollowed-out car battery.
He dialed the only person left in the department he could actually trust.
Detective Sarah Jenkins answered on the second ring.
"Vance, the whole precinct is losing their minds looking for you," Sarah whispered.
"Briggs just put out a warrant for your arrest, claiming you shot an informant."
"Briggs is the shooter, Sarah, and I have it on drone video," Marcus replied.
A heavy silence fell over the line as Sarah processed the devastating information.

"I need you to pull Arthur Sterling's financial records right now," he demanded.
