Chapter 10 - Cornering the Landlord

Arthur Sterling dropped his crystal whiskey glass as the door smashed inward.
He scrambled backward over his expensive leather sofa, his eyes wide with panic.
"How did you get past the police downstairs?" Arthur stammered, raising his hands.
"The police work for Briggs, but I work for my son," Marcus said coldly.
He grabbed Arthur by the collar of his silk shirt, lifting him off his feet.
He dragged the terrified landlord toward the floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
"You like putting people on balconies, Arthur?" Marcus yelled, pressing him against the glass.
"Please, man, Briggs made me do it to buy time!" Arthur pleaded, crying instantly.
"He said you had evidence, he needed a distraction to raid your apartment!"
"Where is Briggs doing his deals, Arthur?" Marcus demanded, pressing harder against the glass.
"Pier 42, tonight at midnight!" Arthur screamed, pointing toward the harbor.
"He's selling the entire precinct's evidence locker to the cartel!"

Marcus threw Arthur to the floor and pulled out his digital voice recorder.
"Say everything you just told me, on the record, right now," Marcus commanded.
