Chapter 20 - Into the Light

Marcus drove back to the safe house where Leo had been waiting patiently.

He unlocked the heavy steel door, stepping into the dimly lit garage.

Leo looked up from a comic book, his eyes lighting up with pure joy.

He sprinted across the room, tackling his father in a massive hug.

"You did it, Dad, you beat the bad guys!" Leo cheered, his breathing perfectly clear.

"We did it, buddy," Marcus corrected, ruffling the boy's hair affectionately.

"I promised you ice cream for breakfast, didn't I?"

Leo nodded vigorously, grabbing his winter coat and rushing toward the door.

They left the dark garage behind, stepping out into the bright winter sunlight.

The city felt different now, cleaner, as if a heavy shadow had been lifted.

But as long as he had his son, he knew he would always have the strength to fight back.
