Chapter 8 - Swallowing the Bait

As soon as Marcus left the hospital, he immediately called Vanessa to share the good news.

I knew this because Arthur had hired a private investigator to monitor their movements and communications.

They were absolutely ecstatic, completely unaware that the deed I had just signed was completely worthless.

Not only was the signature intentionally botched, but Arthur had already placed a legal freeze on the property's title the previous night.

Marcus and Vanessa wasted zero time executing their greedy master plan.

They contacted a shady real estate developer known for buying properties for cash and flipping them rapidly.

They wanted a quick, untraceable sale so they could take the money and move out of state.

The developer agreed to meet them at the house to do a walk-through and finalize a cash offer.

However, Marcus and Vanessa did not know that the developer they called had a long history with Arthur.

Arthur had actually recommended this specific developer's name to Vanessa weeks ago during a casual conversation, planting the seed.

The developer, a sharp man named Mr. Vance, was entirely on our side.

Mr. Vance walked through my beautiful home, pretending to ignore the boarded-up patio door.

He offered them a ridiculously low cash price, which Marcus greedily accepted without a second thought.

They were so blinded by the sight of immediate wealth that they completely missed the red flags.

The trap was fully set, and the bait had been swallowed whole.
