Chapter 4 - The Hidden Truth

Arthur arrived precisely two hours later, looking sharp in his tailored suit despite being in his late sixties.

He immediately ordered Marcus and Vanessa out of the room, citing attorney-client privilege.

Marcus tried to argue, puffing out his chest, but Arthur’s stern, uncompromising glare forced him to retreat.

As soon as the heavy hospital door clicked shut, my weak, confused demeanor instantly vanished.

I sat up slightly, wincing at the pain in my ribs, but my mind was sharper than it had ever been.

"They pushed me, Arthur," I stated plainly, watching the color completely drain from my old friend's face.

"Marcus and Vanessa tried to force me to sign over the deed, and when I refused, things turned violent."

Arthur pulled out his notepad, his expression hardening into pure, professional fury.

"I am calling the police right now, Margaret, we will have them arrested for assault," he declared, reaching for his phone.

"No, not yet," I commanded, stopping him with a firm raise of my hand.

I explained that it would just be my word against theirs, and they had already planted the narrative of a tragic accident.

"I need hard, undeniable proof, Arthur, and thankfully, I already have it."

I leaned in closer, dropping my voice to a barely audible whisper.
