Chapter 5 - Securing the Evidence

Arthur didn't waste a single second after leaving my hospital room.
He drove straight to my house, knowing Marcus and Vanessa would be too busy celebrating their perceived victory to expect him.
He knocked on the front door, putting on his best performance of a concerned family friend.
Marcus answered, looking slightly annoyed but trying to maintain his polite facade.
"I just came to pack a small bag for Margaret," Arthur explained smoothly.
"She needs her own pajamas, some basic toiletries, and a few personal items to feel comfortable."
Vanessa eagerly ushered him inside, probably thrilled at the idea that I wasn't coming back home anytime soon.
While Vanessa went upstairs to the master bedroom to gather clothes, Arthur casually strolled into the den.
His heart pounded against his ribs as he spotted the vintage clock resting perfectly on the wooden mantle.
He quickly slipped the small SD card out of the hidden slot in the back and replaced it with a dummy card he kept in his briefcase.
Just as he slipped the real evidence into his pocket, Marcus walked into the room, eyeing him suspiciously.
"Admiring the antiques?" Marcus asked, his voice laced with underlying hostility.
"Just remembering the old days," Arthur replied calmly, turning around with a nostalgic smile.

He took the bag of clothes from Vanessa, thanked them for their time, and walked out the front door.
The smoking gun was finally secure in Arthur's possession.
