Chapter 15 - The Rats Turn

The new kitchen was a stunning masterpiece of white marble and dark mahogany cabinets.

The patio door had been replaced with reinforced, shatter-proof safety glass.

I walked over to the mantle in the den and gently picked up the vintage clock that had saved my life.

I polished its glass face with my sleeve and placed it right back in the center of the room.

It was no longer just a hidden camera, it was a beautiful monument to my survival.

Later that evening, I poured myself a generous glass of expensive red wine and sat on the patio.

The sky was clear, the stars were shining brightly, and the terrifying storm was just a distant memory.

I thought about Marcus sitting in a cold, concrete cell, waiting for a trial he was guaranteed to lose.

I thought about Vanessa, stripped of her expensive clothes and her pathetic, arrogant pride.

I realized that family is not just about blood, it is about respect, loyalty, and basic human decency.

They had failed on every single front, and I had absolutely no guilt about punishing them for it.

My phone buzzed on the patio table, breaking the peaceful silence.

It was a text from the prosecutor, letting me know that Vanessa had officially turned on Marcus, agreeing to testify against him for a lighter sentence.

I smiled, taking a slow sip of my wine.

The rats were finally eating each other.
