Chapter 11 - Shattering the Illusion

The silence in the room was so heavy it felt like it could suffocate them.

Marcus literally choked on his breath, his eyes bulging as if he had just seen a ghost.

"Mom?" he whispered, his voice cracking violently under the pressure.

"What are you doing here, you are supposed to be in the care facility!" Vanessa shouted, losing all her composure.

I calmly walked to the head of the table and took a seat right across from them.

"I decided I prefer the Four Seasons over a nursing home, Vanessa," I replied coolly, folding my hands on the table.

Arthur stepped into the room right behind me, carrying his trusty leather briefcase.

He pulled out a laptop, flipped it open, and turned the screen to face my horrified son and daughter-in-law.

"We have a slight issue with your version of events regarding Margaret's accident," Arthur stated, his voice ringing with authority.

He pressed the spacebar, and the crystal-clear video from the hidden clock camera began to play.

Marcus watched himself aggressively grab my arm, the audio pumping loudly through the laptop's speakers.

Vanessa gasped, covering her mouth with her hands as she watched herself lunge at me on the screen.

The video played all the way through their disgusting, calculated cover-up while I lay bleeding.

When the screen finally faded to black, Marcus was sweating profusely, his face drained of all color.

The illusion of their power had completely shattered.
