Chapter 7 - Treason and Tactics"Cassian, wait!" Dante pleaded, holding his hands up weakly.

"They threatened my family!"
"They said they would kill my daughters if I didn't open the gates!"
Cassian’s hand trembled slightly with absolute rage.
Betrayal in his world was punishable by only one thing.
"You let them into my home," Cassian snarled.
"You got my men killed."
"I had no choice!" Dante cried, tears streaming down his face.
Before Cassian could pull the trigger, Elena stepped between them, pushing Cassian's gun down.
"Don't do it," she said calmly.
"Move, Elena," Cassian warned, his voice deadly.
"Gunfire in a sealed concrete room will deafen us all, and we need our hearing to survive," she explained rationally.
She turned to Dante, her eyes void of any sympathy.
"How many men did Viktor send?" she asked him.
"Forty," Dante choked out.
"They are heavily armed, and Viktor is with them."
Elena nodded, absorbing the tactical information instantly.
Without a second of hesitation, she struck Dante perfectly on the carotid artery with the edge of her hand.
Dante’s eyes rolled back, and he collapsed to the floor, unconscious.
"He will sleep for a few hours," Elena said, turning back to Cassian.
"We can deal with his treason if we survive the night."

Cassian stared at her, deeply impressed by her cold, calculated efficiency.
"I really should have paid more attention to you," he murmured.
