Chapter 12 - Cleaning Up the MessThe leader of the Russian strike team, a massive man named Boris, heard a faint thud.

He turned around, raising his heavy machine gun.

His two men were lying dead on the marble floor.

Standing in the center of the foyer, covered in dust and blood, was a woman in a slate-gray dress.

"Who the hell are you?" Boris growled in heavy English.

"I am the maid," Elena said calmly.

Boris laughed, a cruel, harsh sound that echoed off the vaulted ceiling.

He raised his weapon to tear her in half.

Elena threw her combat knife with blinding speed.

The blade buried itself deep into Boris's right shoulder, causing him to drop the heavy weapon with a roar of pain.

She didn't give him a chance to recover.

She sprinted across the foyer, sliding under his clumsy, desperate punch.

She swept his legs out from under him, sending his massive frame crashing to the hard floor.

Before he could sit up, she snatched his own sidearm from his hip holster.

She aimed it directly between his eyes.

"Where is Viktor?" she demanded, her voice like cracking ice.

"He is in the library," Boris spat, clutching his bleeding shoulder.

Elena pulled the trigger, ensuring he wouldn't warn his boss.

She stood up, wiping a streak of soot from her cheek, and headed for the library.
