Chapter 15 - A New OfferThe sound of police sirens echoed faintly in the distance.

Marcus rushed into the library, his face pale but relieved.
"Cassian, our reinforcements just arrived at the front gate," Marcus reported.
"They are clearing the remaining Russians from the grounds."
"Good," Cassian said, stepping back from Elena.
"Have a cleanup crew brought in immediately."
"I want no trace of this battle when the local authorities come knocking."
Marcus nodded, pulling out his phone to make the calls.
Elena turned to leave the room, her duty seemingly complete.
"Where are you going?" Cassian asked, his voice stopping her in her tracks.
"To find a mop, sir," she said dryly.
"There is a lot of blood on the limestone."
Cassian actually laughed, a deep, rich sound that seemed completely out of place in the blood-soaked room.
"You are never touching a mop again, Elena," he declared.
She looked back at him, raising an elegant eyebrow.
"Are you firing me, Mr. Thorne?" she asked.
"No," he said, walking toward her again.
"I am promoting you."
"I need a new head of security, considering my last one ended up tied to a chair."

Elena considered his offer, her mind racing with the implications.
Staying here meant staying in the underworld, but this time, with power.
