Chapter 1 - The Glitch in the SystemCassian’s dark eyes locked onto her face, searching for a crack in her submissive facade.

"You noticed the cameras, didn't you?" he asked, his voice dangerously soft.

Marcus and Dante both stared at her, their expressions a mix of confusion and outrage.

"I don't know what you mean, sir," Elena lied smoothly, keeping her gaze pinned to the floor.

Cassian stood up, slowly walking around the heavy walnut desk until he was inches from her.

"Do not lie to me, Elena," he whispered, towering over her.

"You paused when I mentioned the southern perimeter."

"You know something."

Elena weighed her options in the span of a single heartbeat.

If she spoke, she exposed her tactical knowledge and blew her cover forever.

If she stayed silent, they would all be dead in less than five minutes.

She lifted her chin, her emerald eyes meeting his cold stare directly for the very first time.

"The sensors are not malfunctioning, Mr. Thorne," she stated evenly.

"They are being electronically spoofed from inside your own security hub."

Dante scoffed loudly, stepping forward with his hand on his holster.

"Cassian, are you really going to listen to the maid?" Dante sneered.

"She’s right," Cassian said, never breaking eye contact with Elena.

"How do you know this?" he demanded.

Before she could answer, a deafening explosion shattered the reinforced glass of the west wing.
