Chapter 13 - The Library StandoffThe heavy oak doors of the library were slightly ajar.

Elena slipped inside, the shadows masking her approach.
Viktor Volkov stood by the grand fireplace, pouring himself a glass of Cassian’s expensive bourbon.
He was a tall, silver-haired man with cold, sociopathic eyes.
Two heavily armed guards stood on either side of the room.
"You really should not drink on the job," Elena announced, stepping into the dim light.
Viktor turned, looking mildly amused at the sight of the blood-splattered woman.
"And you must be the phantom my men are screaming about on the radio," Viktor sneered.
His guards raised their weapons, but a sudden burst of gunfire shattered the glass doors behind them.
Cassian stepped through the broken glass, his submachine gun smoking.
He had refused to stay in the garage.
The two guards dropped instantly, riddled with bullets.
Viktor dropped his glass, reaching for the golden pistol inside his jacket.
Elena moved faster.
She fired the shotgun, blasting the heavy crystal decanter on the table right next to Viktor.
The explosion of glass forced Viktor to cover his face, sending him stumbling backward.
Cassian walked forward, placing the hot barrel of his gun against Viktor's forehead.

"You overplayed your hand, Viktor," Cassian growled.
"Your men are dead."
