Chapter 10 - Splitting UpCassian dropped down beside her, firing a continuous burst from his submachine gun.

Two more mercenaries fell, their armor shredded by the close-range crossfire.
Elena didn't stop moving.
She used her shotgun like a blunt instrument, smashing the stock into the face of a large Russian fighter.
He staggered backward, and she smoothly pumped the action, firing a slug into his kneecap.
The hallway was filled with blinding smoke and the deafening roar of gunfire.
"Clear!" Marcus shouted, dropping down from the vent to secure the perimeter.
The six men were dead or incapacitated, the breaching charges left unexploded on the floor.
"That was incredibly reckless," Cassian breathed, wiping blood from his cheek.
"It was tactically sound," Elena corrected him, retrieving her empty shells so no one could track her movements.
"They are calling for backup," Marcus warned, listening to a dead mercenary's radio.
"Viktor knows we are out of the safe room."
Elena looked down the long, dark corridor leading toward the main foyer.
"We need to split up," she decided.
"Marcus, take Cassian to the underground garage and secure a vehicle."
"What about you?" Cassian demanded, his chest tightening at the thought of leaving her behind.
"I am going to find Viktor Volkov," she said coldly.
