Chapter 4 - Down the Rabbit HoleElena ripped the starched white apron off her dress and tossed it onto the mahogany desk.

"We need to move to the basement safe room," she instructed, checking the rifle's magazine.
"The safe room is a dead end if they have explosives," Marcus argued, clutching his radio.
"It is the only room with a separate ventilation shaft that leads out to the cliffs," Elena countered.
"And you know this because you dust the blueprints?" Cassian asked, a hint of amusement in his dark voice.
"I make it a habit to know my exits," she replied sharply.
"Dante needs a tourniquet," she added, gesturing to the bleeding lieutenant on the floor.
Cassian quickly stripped off his expensive silk tie and tightly bound Dante's arm.
"Can you walk?" Cassian asked his lieutenant.
Dante nodded, his face pale and sweating heavily.
"Let's move," Elena commanded, stepping out into the blood-stained corridor.
She moved with terrifying grace, clearing corners with the rifle tucked tightly against her shoulder.
Cassian watched her back, realizing every movement she made was calculated and lethal.
She wasn't just trained; she was elite.
They encountered three more Volkov mercenaries near the grand staircase.
Before Cassian could raise his weapon, Elena dropped two of them with surgical headshots.
Cassian finished off the third, stepping over the bodies as they hurried toward the servant's stairwell.
